Update from a year ago post. I tried a variety of cutting mat substitutes but they all failed. Even worse than the original DP folders. I doubled and taped and did all kinds of options and trials. Will I did find one of the actual cutting plates for a different machine did work. This is thicker than the DP by about 50% So less than two together that makes one folder. Problem is I can't seem to locate what I bought and so it's limited to two single plates sold as a pair I cut to fit my Press. I'm still searching through Amazon sales in hopes I figure it out. I buy name brand and generic plates for all my other presses and I have 4 different brands oh make that 5 now and sizes vary from small Tim Holtz 2.5" all the way up to 8.5" wide. I favor Spellbinders right now but bought the Empress full size on super sale on HSN a month ago. Have yet to try it. I know window for returns is close at hand. I have had two other electric brands fail. One thing I know is I like quite and the Empress is suppose to be quite. However back to why I love the DP. It's small and solid and easy to use. The downside is the poor quality of the folders. Now using their super thin dies the folders hold up longer. Not so great with the plastic core glitter papers but so far all the machines require shims to get them cut and sometimes multiple passes. And even then I've had to use scissors to cut through that plastic core in places during weeding. Once I nail down the product and sandwich I used that held up far better than any other substitute for the folders I'll update here. But play around and not all mats sold for food chopping are identical across the board so some may actually hold up better than others. Rule of thumb lay the sub's along side an original non used folder that's closed. And use it as a guide to how thick you should go. And as much as I love the DP and their dies they will not cut in any of my machines without shims and even with shims of various sizes they can fall short of cutting. Mind you the DP is suppose to cut any other brand of thin dies which it may do well or actually this is where it ruins the folders within a few runs. Other brands and most generic dies thin ones are still much thicker than the DP dies and so that's part of the problem. So what I find utterly frustrating is not being able to grab my DP dies and run through any of my other machines when ever I like with out fussing. Though some of the bigger name brands list how they can cut other brands of dies no one has recommendations for the DP. As if they just ignore them and how thin they really are. I also do not want to destroy the DP dies in another machine. So one way I've found around this is to run it through an original Sizzix red press machine that's not a roller press. This kinda works but it's a hit and miss with the longer or larger dies that you feed through an inch or two at a time because the press plate isn't very wide. You set up the die press then advance the item a little more and press again and so on until the entire die and paper media has advanced all the way through and under the press plates. But for anyone facing the problem of having bought these wonderful DP dies but doesn't own a DP machine that's an option that works with some practice and care not to damage the dies too. I have yet to try any embossing DP plates in any other machine. I have a few just haven't tried them out. Happy stamping and pressing everyone.

Thanks, I took my Diamond press on the road with me for the first time. I've had it for almsot a year but I also have Platinum 8.5 and 6 plus a tiny Tim Holtz Sidekick. But needed an inbetween. I was impressed how well it cut. OMGOSH beautiful. Then reality struck. The folders last like only 2-6 passes. I am not kidding???? So now what do I do. I luckily took 6 folders with me but at this rate I was going to be out and had already gone through 3. So what to use as an alternative. This looks like it will work. I need to cut out at least 20 of one medium size die and 30 of another medium plus 50 sets of the numbers 50 with th die too for our 50th anniversary reverse card party we are sending out this year. At this rate I'd be in the poor house just trying to run the dies through several times. Really Diamond press your press is wonderful your cutting folders are JUNK. Sorry that's how they come across when you can't finish a project that the product should hold up to at least that much.

What a great idea. Disappointing that the folders do not last at all. They warp really badly and there's no way to flatten them out. I tried using the heat gun and quickly put something heavy on top in hopes that they will flatten out when warm. I've been checking HSN for the refills for the last 6 months. They are still out of stock. They must do this on purpose. I don't think it's right or fair that you can only order them on HSN. I didn't think it would be so difficult to buy more folders. After two or three uses, the folder is so warped that you really can't use them any more. You can damage your think metal dies this way. I will definitely try the cutting mats. I bought some cutting mat sets from Big Lots several months ago for gifts. I tried one set one day and they are so curved and won't stay put on the counter I can't give them as gifts. Now I've wasted a lot of $ because I bought several. Hopefully I use them as folders so my $ hasn't gone down the drain. THANKS for the tip.

I recently found this idea and I was amazed! It really works marvelously. I would say they work even better than the original folders. From one mat I cut 2 regular size folders and one thin folder for small dies. Thanks!

Thank you for the video. I think the trick to using DP folders is to rotate them every other time you use them. It has helped to keep the folders from warping so quickly. Even if the folder warps it still works.

I tried that but again it didn't last more than one maybe two more passes. I love how well the press cuts but the folders need huge improvement.
